- 1 cup shortening
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup buttermilk or sour milk
- 1 3/4 cups sifted all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp. ground nutmeg
- 3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
- 1 cup raisins
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs together until light and fluffy.
Stir in the buttermilk. Sift together dry ingredients, and stir into
creamed mixture. Stir in the oats, raisins, and nuts.
Drop from a tablespoon 2 inches apart on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
Bake at 400 degrees for about 8 min. cool slightly, and remove from
pan. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
